Continuing Education Requirements

Hours Required

- All agents must complete 24 hours of CE in each two-year renewal period, including 3 hours of Ethics and 3 hours of Oregon law

- Oregon licensed adjusters, both resident and non-resident, must complete 24 hours of continuing education prior to renewal, including 3 hours of ethics and 3 hours of Oregon law. (If an adjuster also holds a producer license, they only need to complete 24 total credits including the 3 hours of Ethics and 3 hours of Oregon Law)

For a non-resident license, you can provide credit for courses taken for another state so long as the same course is also approved in Oregon.  The licensee will still have to take 24 hours of continuing education, even if the home state requires fewer hours.  Those 24 hours must include 3 hours of Oregon Law and 3 hours of Ethics. 

Compliance Date

Last day of the individual licensee's birth month, biennially.

• Independent self-study online or written courses (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)

Exam Requirements

Written self-study courses require a monitor. A state-registered proctor or a 3rd party who is a librarian, clergyman, state or community college representative, certified public accountant or attorney must monitor the exam.

The Interactive online self study courses do not require a proctor.

Course Subject Requirements

• At least three hours must be professional ethics
• At least three hours must be on Oregon statutes and administrative rules, including recent changes.
• An individual cannot sell LTC unless the individual completes a one-time training course of at least 8 hours, the individual must also complete at least 4 hours of ongoing training every two years.
• Licensees who wish to sell flood insurance must complete a one-time three-credit course regarding the federal flood insurance program. The Oregon Division of Insurance recommends but does not require individuals to complete a course in flood insurance every two years.
• No more than four hours is allowed for approved agency management courses.

Annuity Suitability - Any insurance producer who engages in the sale of annuity products must complete a one time four credit training course. Courses may be taken through classroom or self study. 

Carryover Credits

Excess CE credit hours may not be carried over to the next reporting period.

Course Repetition

Courses may not be taken more than once in a two-year period.

Exemptions

• Non-residents are exempt
• Individuals holding limited lines licenses for which an exam is not required
• Individuals who are retired, at least 58 years of age, have been licensed for at least 10 years, authorized to transact life insurance only and will be servicing existing policies only. (This exemption requires department approval.)

Credit Reporting

Cape School shall submit completion credits electronically no later than 15 days after the date on which the course has been completed.
