Continuing Education Requirements

Hours Required

• Single or dual major lines need 18 total credits of which 3 must be Ethics. (Major lines are Life, Accident and Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty, and Personal)

• Public Adjusters need 18 total credits of which 3 must be Ethics.
• Title (only) Insurance agents are required to complete 4 hours biennially in the Title category.

• Crop Insurance agents require 2 hours biennially.

Non-Resident Public Adjusters  must satisfy their designated home state continuing education requirement.

Compliance Date

Agent’s date of birth, biennially; licensee’s born in odd numbered years report in odd years, even numbered birth years report in even years.

Approved Course Delivery Methods

• Independent self-study online or written courses (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)

• Classroom

Exam Requirements

Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party (i.e. someone with no business or family relationship to the student).

Course Subject Requirements

• All major lines agents and public adjusters must complete at least 3 credits in the topic of Ethics.

• Course must be approved for lines of insurance in which the agent’s license is held.

• LH/PC combined licensees must complete 50% of hours in each line.

Annuity - Kansas has adopted the best interest standard. Effective January 1, 2024; producers engaging in the sale of annuities must be in compliance with 40-1-53.

• A producer who has completed an annuity training course approved by the Commissioner prior to January 1, 2024 shall, within six (6) months after January 1, 2024, complete either:

- - (a) A new four (4) credit training course approved by the Commissioner after January 1, 2024; or

- - (b) An additional one-time one (1) credit training course approved by the department of insurance and provided by the Commissioner approved education provider on appropriate sales practices, replacement and disclosure requirements under this amended Policy and Procedure.

• Agents licensed in Property Casualty or Personal Lines must complete a one time 3 credit course in flood insurance.

Title agents must take course specifically approved for Title credits.

Long Term Care - A 4-credit initial LTCP training course is required to sell Long Term Care Partnership. A 1-credit refresher course is required every renewal thereafter. Click here for full LTC information.

Carryover Credits

Carryover credits are not allowed.

Course Repetition

Credit will not be given for a course that is repeated within a 2-year period.

Exemptions

• Individuals licensed less than two years at the time of the compliance date.

Credit Reporting

Cape School will report continuing education credits to State Based Systems. A course completion certificate is provided for the agent's record.
