Continuing Education Requirements

IMPORTANT

Starting July 16, 2012 All Individual Licensees will be getting new license numbers which will be the same as their NPN (National Producer Number).

Hours Required

• Life: 21 hours biennially
• Health: 21 hours biennially
• Combined Life and Health: 21 hours biennially
• Property: 21 hours biennially
• Casualty: 21 hours biennially
• Combined Property and Casualty: 21 hours biennially
• Personal Lines: 21 hours biennially
• Title: 6 hours biennially
• Crop: 3 hours biennially
• Variable: 21 hours biennially

Ethics Requirement:  In addition to the hours required above, licensees are required to complete 3 hours of approved continuing education activities on insurance industry ethics.

Insurance Consultants shall be required to complete 21 hours of CE activities and 3 hours of approved continuing education activities on insurance industry ethics in each two-year period.

Public Adjusters are licensed as Insurance Consultants in NE, needing 24 general hours biennially including 3 Ethics.

No licensee shall be required to complete more than 24 cumulative hours in any two-year period.

Compliance Date

Producer renewal begins 120 days prior to the license renewal date, which is the last day of the agents birth month, biennially.  Renewal may be done on the NIPR site: www.nipr.com

Approved Course Delivery Methods

• Written and Online self-study courses (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)
• Interactive Online
• Classroom
• Seminar

Exam Requirements

All self-study exams must be passed with a score of 70% or higher.

Course Subject Requirements

• Courses must be approved for the lines of insurance for which license is held.
• In addition to the basic requirement, licensees must complete 3 hours in insurance-related ethics.
• Individuals licensed for crop only, fidelity and surety only or title insurance only must complete an additional three hours in insurance-related ethics.

-Long Term Care requirement.  Producers who sell or solicit long term care insurance must complete 8 hrs initial training and 4 hrs of ongoing training every 24 months thereafter.

-Annuity requirement. Effective January 1, 2013, producers who sell or solicit annuities are required to complete 4 hrs of Annuity Training.

-Flood Insurance Training requirement. Producers who sell or solicit flood insurance must complete 3 hrs of flood insurance training.

Carryover Credits

Excess credit hours may not be carried over to the next reporting period.

Course Repetition

Courses (including courses approved to meet the ethics requirement) may not be taken for credit more than once in a four-year period.

Exemptions

• Licensees for whom an examination is not required under the laws of the state of Nebraska.
• Licensees who sell or consult only in the areas of credit life insurance and credit accident and health insurance.
• Licensees holding such limited or restricted licenses as the Director may exempt.

Credit Reporting

Cape will report course completions to SBS within 10 business days.
