Continuing Education Requirements This information is intended to provide answers to commonly asked questions by real estate agents. Hours Required Each ACTIVE LICENSEE, regardless of license status, shall submit proof to the Superintendent that the licensee has satisfactorily completed 30 hours of continuing education, including the three required courses, Civil rights, Core Law and Ohio Canons of Ethics (all 3 hours each). All brokers and management level licensees will also be required to complete a 3-hour Broker Responsibility course for a total of 12 hours of required core courses Each ACTIVE LICENSEE who is 70 yrs. of age or older on their renewal birthday shall submit proof they have completed the three required courses (total of 9 hours) in Civil Rights, Core Law and Ohio Canons of Ethics. Additionally, all active brokers and management level licensees must also submit the 3-hour Broker Responsibility course for a total of 12 hours of required core courses. Compliance Date Every three years from the first birthday following initial licensure. Approved Course Delivery Methods • Independent self-study online courses Exam Requirements Self-study courses do not require a final exam Course Subject Requirements Each licensee is required to complete 9 hours of mandatory coursework to include the following: 3 hours Civil Rights, 3 hours Core Law and 3 hours Canons of Ethics. All active brokers and management level licensees must also complete the 3-hour Broker Responsibility course for a total of 12 hours of required core courses. Carryover Credits A maximum of ten elective hours may be carried over to the next compliance period. Credit Reporting Continuing Education providers must submit rosters through the course/class roster entry system within 10 days of the date of course completion. License Renewal Agent must submit "Renewal Application with Education Compliance Form" from the Ohio Department of Commerce along with copies of certificates of completion and renewal fee. We will provide a certificate of completion for your records and you will be responsible for transferring the information provided to your renewal sheet. Post License Education Requirements Not earlier than the date of issue of a real estate broker's license to a licensee, but not later than twelve months after the date of issue of a real estate broker's license to a licensee, the licensee shall submit proof satisfactory to the superintendent, on forms made available by the superintendent, of the completion of ten hours of instruction that shall be completed in schools, seminars, and educational institutions that are approved by the commission. Approval of the curriculum and providers shall be granted according to rules adopted pursuant to section 4735.10 of the Revised Code and may be taken through classroom instruction or distance education. Not earlier than the date of issue of a real estate salesperson's license to a licensee, but not later than twelve months after the date of issue of a real estate salesperson license to a licensee, the licensee shall submit proof satisfactory to the superintendent, on forms made available by the superintendent, of the completion of twenty hours of instruction that shall be completed in schools, seminars, and educational institutions approved by the commission. The instruction shall include, but is not limited to, current practices relating to commercial real estate, property management, short sales, and land contracts; contract law; federal and state programs; economic conditions; and fiduciary responsibility. Approval of the curriculum and providers shall be granted according to rules adopted pursuant to section 4735.10 of the Revised Code and may be taken through classroom instruction or distance education.
