Hours Required

Major Line Producers that expire on or after September 13, 2013:

  • Complete 48 hours of Arizona approved Insurance continuing education during the license term, which must include at least six hours of ethics training UNLESS you are exempt from the insurance CE requirement*

*You are only exempt from Arizona's insurance continuing education requirement if ALL THE FOLLOWING APPLY and continue to apply:

  • You have been "continuously licensed" in Arizona as an insurance agent, broker, or producer since January 1, 1995; and
  •
  • You have not held a nonresident insurance producer license in another state at any time since Jan 1, 1995; and
  • You have never been the subject of an order of the director of insurance for a violation of Arizona Insurance Laws (ARS Title 20) that resulted in your license being suspended, revoked, denied or not renewed; or, that required you to cease and desist from unlawful activity; or, that required you to pay restitution or a civil penalty.

COMPLETE INSURANCE CONTINUING EDUCATION EARLY. Expect a delay between the time you complete a course and the time course completion is posted on a transcript or you receive a Certificate of Compliance. If the Department does not receive your complete license renewal application, including evidence of completing insurance continuing education, on or before the date your license expires, you will have to stop conducting insurance business and wait until the Department renews your license, and you will have to pay a $100 late renewal fee.

Course Subject Requirements

Agents who sell, solicit or negotiate long-term care insurance must be licensed with the Accident and Health or Sickness line of authority and must complete a one-time 8 hour initial long-term care training course. The agents must then complete an ongoing requirement of 4-hours of long term care every two years thereafter. All Arizona licensed resident agents who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.

In order to be eligible to renew a license, an Arizona resident insurance producer or managing general agent must complete Arizona's insurance continuing education requirements if the licensee held a nonresident insurance license in another state at any time during the expiring Arizona license period.

A nonresident insurance producer or managing general agent only needs to fulfill Arizona's CE requirements if the nonresident's home state imposes its CE requirements upon our resident licensees.  As of the date of this publication, nonresidents are not required to complete Arizona CE because no other states impose CE requirements on Arizona Residents

Annuity Requirement:

Effective January 1, 2018: An insurer must verify that an individual who holds a life insurance producer license has completed a four-hour annuity training course before allowing the insurance producer to sell, solicit or negotiate an annuity on the insurer’s behalf.

Both resident and non-resident life insurance producers must complete the four-hour training course. Any course that shows 4 or more hours of annuity credit will satisfy the training requirement. The four-hour training requirement may be satisfied by completing four or more hours of annuity training that fulfill another state’s annuity training requirement.

Effective January 1, 2021:
An insurance producer who, before the effective date of SB1557 (Jan. 1, 2021), has completed an annuity training course pursuant to section 20-1243.07, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act within six months after the effect date of SB1557 (January 1, 2021) shall complete either:
 1. A new 4-credit hour annuity training course approved by the director of the department of insurance and financial institutions after January 1, 2021.
OR
 2. An additional one-time 1-credit hour annuity training course, approved by the department of insurance and financial institutions and provided by an education provider approved by the department, on appropriate sales practices, replacement and disclosure requirements prescribed in Title 20, Chapter 6, Article 1.3, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act.
