Continuing Education Requirements



Listed below are the continuing education requirements for resident licensees. It provides the continuing education requirements by license type. It also provides information on carry over credits, waivers, reductions and restrictions on continuing education. Please note if you are filing for a reduction in your continuing education requirements based upon teaching, legislative journalism or projects involving insurance, you must file form GID101E. BIENNIAL CONTINUING EDUCATION
LICENSE TYPE REQUIREMENT
   
*All resident licensees with less than 20 years of service 24 hours (3 hours must be in ethics)
*All resident licensees with more than 20 years of service 20 hours (3 hours must be in ethics)
*Credit Insurance Only 10 hours (self study - no ethics)
*Limited Subagent Only 10 hours (no ethics requirement)
*Workers Compensation Adjuster Only 

20 hours of approved CE thru WC Board (no ethics requirement)



ADDITIONAL CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION/CREDIT


  • Continuing education requirements must be completed biennially on or before the last day of the licensee’s birth month.
  •  
  • Credit will not be given for the same Continuing Education Course taken multiple times within the same CE reporting period.
  •  
  • Credit for continuing education earned in one filing period in excess of the hours required may be carried forward to the next filing period, provided that credit carried forward shall not exceed fifty percent (50%) of biennial continuing education requirement
  •  
  • Credits completed must be specific to the licensee's line of authority
  • Upon filing of the required form on or before the date required for filing continuing education credits with the Commissioner, any person may receive a reduction or exemption in continuing education hours required to the extent of the time spent on insurance related activities during the previous years. Such activity shall include, but not limited to, the following related or occupational duties:
  •  
    • Teaching courses in insurance related topics
    • Insurance related legislative activities
    • Journalism activities involving insurance related topics
    • Projects involving research of insurance laws and regulations
    •  
  • Individuals holding the following professional designations are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education with 3 of those being in ethics: CPCU, CLU, FLMI, CIC, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), ChFC, Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or a major BBA in Risk Management and Insurance from an accredited college. If you hold these designations please submit proof to our office.
  •  
  • Agents holding a non-active license as provided in O.C.G.A 33-23-4(f) and 33-23-18(e) are exempt from Continuing Education requirements provided:
    • the holder of such license files for renewal annually on
    • or before the date required.
    • Such exemption shall only be valid during the period
    • the license  is nonactive.
 

Exam Requirements

Continuing Education final exams for Georgia are now required to have a minimum of 10 questions for the 1st credit hour with an additional 5 questions for each subsequent credit hour. Students must obtain a score of 70% or greater to pass.

Credit Reporting

CAPE will report credits promptly to SIRCON. A course completion certificate is provided for the agent’s records.
